Recovery

Recovery Coaches
The PAAC recovery wellness center provides support services through its staff of
Recovery Coaches. All of our Recovery Coaches have an understanding of and respect
for each individual’s unique path to recovery. Through lived experiences, they also
possess a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system and a
demonstrated commitment to the recovery community.

The Recovery Coach’s role is to support others in recovery from a substance use and
co-occurring disorders. The Recovery Coach serves as a role model, mentor, advocate
and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote
long-term recovery. The PAAC Recovery Coach demonstrate the ability to share
personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer to-peer relationships.
Specifically, some tasks of the PAAC Recovery Coaches include, actively identifying
and supporting linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational,
vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional
services, etc.) that support the recovering person’s goals and interests. This involves a
collaborative effort including the recovering person, agency staff and other relevant
stakeholders. Recovery coaches also support connections to community based,
mutual self-help groups, link individuals to appropriate professional resources when
needed and provide vision-driven cooperative goal setting and encouragement for
opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community based activities (e.g., work,
school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc.).

Counseling
The PAAC provides counseling services to individuals who have mental health
challenges. The PAAC counselor is located at the Behavioral Health Wellness
Recovery Center and specializes in substance use addiction and mood disorders. The
primary responsibility of the counselor is to listen as clients describe problems, help
individuals develop coping skills, as well as create goals and treatment plans that
promote a higher quality of life. Both group and individual counseling sessions are
offered regularly. Because every client is different and struggling with various degrees
of addiction, the counselor will work with individuals in a crisis or make referrals to a
higher level of care based on need.

Additionally the counselor promotes methods, such as 12-step programs, peer support
or whatever pathway an individual chooses to help clients toward recovery. Since
PAAC sees family as foundational in recovery, upon request the Counselor will meet
with family members to provide additional guidance and education on how to aid loved
ones in the recovery process.
