This project is made possible due to the WV Division of Justice and Community Services. PAAC is one of the grantees for the demonstration project to reduce Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) in Kanawha County. Disproportionate minority contact in terms means the number of minority youths who come into contact with law enforcement negatively. So with the assistance of PAAC’s Liaison, PAAC is able to approach any law enforcement agencies in Kanawha County and discuss how we can all work together to make our community a better and safer environment for our children’s. PAAC is implementing the following: A training program with youth on how to conduct themselves when they encounter law enforcement. Facilitate the forming of a task force to continue to look at and develop solutions to the DMC challenge. Facilitate at least two gatherings between law enforcement and youth and community members in a non-threating gathering and Evaluate the effectiveness of this program.
